NO COMPULSORY HIJAB DAY #Dec27 #NoCompulsoryHijabDay
27 December 2017, a young woman named Vida Movahed climbs up on a utility box at Revolution Street in Tehran and takes off her hijab in front of a large crowd.
What she did was a tipping point in the movement against compulsory veiling.
We announce the 27th of December as World Day against the Mandatory Hijab.
The hijab is the foundation and symbol of women’s rightlessness in political Islam. The hijab is the symbol of gender apartheid and the blatant discrimination against hundreds of millions of women in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia and in many other countries in the world. Compulsory veiling, child hijabs and burqas must be banned in all countries in the world! We call on women’s rights defenders to take action against compulsory veiling on the 27th of December and draw the world’s attention to the rightlessness and discrimination that is inflicted on women and girls. Long live the women’s liberation movement! Long live freedom and equality!
